Differences between DNA and RNA: ( i know it sounds noobish now to be talking bout basics :p)

Type of sugar: DNA - deoxyribose sugar. RNA - ribose sugar.

Structure: DNA- double-stranded molecule with a long chain of nucleotides. RNA is a single-stranded molecule with shorter chains of nucleotides.

Bases: DNA- Thymine. RNA- Uracil.

Roles: DNA - storage of genetic information of an organism. RNA messenger that relays the genetic information from the nucleus to the ribosome.

taking mock chem paper 3 later at 8am omg. havent really prepared yet. i bet its HCI 07 paper .lol, after 'discovering' paper1 was HCI's. joanne's reaction (cuz she was beside me) was 'omg hwa chong paper!' ahhaha..

spent 2 hours talking to 2 frens (1hr each), but i felt it was time well spent. it wasnt really a catching up session,but it made me realise how out of touch i've been. studies really do make ppl irrational.

now doing : HCI chem paper3 08 ( haha.. to 'get use' to HCI's style)

omg so cool haha. sam juz told me that the 1st qn of h2 bio paper2 08 is from our biology tutorial! its almost the same qn as the alevels, juz that the alevels one has an addition qn 'out the role of centromeres'. even the graph is almost same :) ( except our graph is labelled 1/2/3, while alevels one is A/B/C). to think the tutorial spot the qn! ( the tutorial was smth we did in jc1, which was way b4 2008 alevels). omg, haha, as sam said "we better do(or redo) our tutorials!". who know a similar qn may juz appear!

i've been neglecting econs (and bio/maths :( ) for chem. zomg. time to catch up on the remaining 3 subject...

so what have i been neglecting so far? :( (so i need to put it here to remind me! & ppl reading this can also learn at the same time lols)

Gini coefficient

An inequality indicator. The Gini coefficient measures the inequality of income distribution within a country. It varies from zero, which indicates perfect equality, with every household earning exactly the same, to one, which implies absolute inequality, with a single household earning a country's entire income. Latin America is the world's most unequal region, with a Gini coefficient of around 0.5; in rich countries the figure is closer to 0.3.

The J curve effect

Short Run: A devaluation or depreciation of the exchange rate may not improve the current account deficit of the balance of payments due to the low PED for imports and exports. Volume of imports will remain relatively constant because contracts for imports have been signed.

However, the depreciation raises the price of imports causing total expenditure on imports to rise. Export demand will also be inelastic in response to the exchange rate change; therefore the earnings from exports may be insufficient to compensate for higher spending on imports. The current account deficit may worsen.

Long Run: Providing that the PED for imports and exports are greater than 1 then the trade balance will improve (aka Marshall-Lerner condition is met). Demand for exports increase and domestic consumers switch their spending away from imported goods and services, the overall balance of payments starts to improve.

yikes,doing tys nv fail to freak me out. in an attempt to make myself 'enjoy' more chemistry( or other subjects), i think for every post i make here muz be related to the syllabus lols. take aways from this week's chem tys mcq 06.

2dae was mtps. quite weird though.. having both mr lau and ms gunawan in front of ur parents and u -_-. and mr lau told me to get off the com o_O oops. i already cut down 70% of my com/lappie usage, trying to cut more..

strangely, i somehow like the pic of ibuprofen in the prev post.. i wanna post more structural formulae o_O mayb it will help my chem lols..

synthesis of Paracetamol : 3 step reaction.

step 1: dilute HNO3 @ r.t.p ( easy electrophilic substitution)

step 2: Sn in conc. HCl, Heat ( reduction)

step 3: CH3COCl [aka ethyl chloride], @ r.t.p. ( nucleophilic substitution)

wow its all with the H2 chemistry syllabus XD. para means its in the 4th position, ortho is 2nd. but the synthesis of asprin looks kinda difficult :( ohwells. mr lau, if u see my blog, be proud of me ahhaha..

and mr lin said that i write like "someone from economic times/ the economist, very evaluative but suitable not for ALevels" for my econs stuff yesterday, but my writing isnt 'academic' enuf. o_O. so is that suppose to be a gd thing? i mean i can write like those 2 prestigious magazines, but such writing cannot get me my A/B for econs? -_-. ohdear, contributors to those mags, looks like u cant ace ur GCSEs in economics o_O.
